Mariyampillai Sarathjeevan, popularly known as Father Sara, died on May 18 2009 while leading a group of Tamils to the SLA side. SLA claimed he died of a heart attack but unconfirmed reports claim he was severely assaulted by the SLA. The memorial was erected in his former parish, St Fatima Church, Uruthirapuram, Kilinochchi on May 18 2010.
