CHDM hosts regular film screenings in order to engage audiences with emerging, underground and topical films by local filmmakers that revolve around the topics of history, memory and social significance.
Using the effective medium of film to facilitate the discussion of sensitive topics, CHDM’s feature a range of films playing in different cultural contexts in an attempt to cater to the diversity within Sri Lankan society.
The films have been selected for their ability to spark fruitful discussions, allowing audiences to reflect on their own lives and perceptions dominant in their societies. With its identified key themes and guiding questions, the film guide serves as resource material for all who wish to create a dialogue on social issues with the aim of challenging the conventional understanding and stereotypes.
The films screened at our CHDM venue are followed by intimate and insightful discussions between the filmmaker and the audience.
