Two years ago a small group of artists began a research and performance project, which quickly gained recognition as the “Dear Children, Sincerely…” (DCS) project.
The DCS project is an initiative aimed at the youth of Sri Lanka consisting of the performances of monologues based on memories, stories and experiences belonging to the elders of our society. It pays particular homage to the generation born in the 1930’s who not only witnessed Sri Lanka’s Independence but also observed the entire modern history of the country unfold before their eyes.
The monologues are performed with the hope that we might come to understand Sri Lanka not only as a country inherited with its many prejudices and mistakes; but also as a country that has given us the hope, humor, understanding and courage of the people who went before us.
These monologues have been created specifically for young audiences with the objective of creating a link between the experience of our elders and the knowledge of our youth in order to generate a curiosity in young people about people who have experienced a very different Sri Lanka to the one that they now live in.
