On November 7th 2006, during the Eastern Operation, 45 Tamil IDPs sheltering in two school buildings were killed and over a 300 injured, due to shelling from the Sri Lankan Army. The SLA claimed they were retaliating fire but the LTTE and many eye witnesses disputed this.
