167 pilgrims travelling in a bus, van and lorry, from Colombo to Kattankudy, after going on Hajj pilgrimage, were waylaid by the LTTE, and subsequently killed and buried on the beach, on July 12 1990. There are currently agitations to begin exhumations to locate the dead.
