Sinhala Policemen and Muslim Home guards from Alinchipotanai who had abandoned their village when the LTTE arrived on April 12th 1992, proceeded to the Tamil village of Karapola, at dawn, seeking retribution. 38 Tamil villagers in Karapola and 51 Tamils, including 13 children, in Muthugala, were killed later that day. Five Tamil men from Muthugala who were hiding in the paddy fields of the Sinhala village of Madurangala were also arrested and killed by the Muslim Home Guards.
