ACCESS TO INFORMATION, MEMORIES & EVIDENCE (AIME) PROGRAMME
The AIME programme directs and supports the nexus between archives and records management (ARM) and human rights in Sri Lanka. It is made up of various programmatic tracks, which have been identified and developed based on the following issues:
- limited programmatic interventions with regard to ARM and human rights;
- minimal capacities within organisations to develop ARM-based approaches to current work;
- the urgency of interventions on account of real or perceived risks to archives, records, creators, and custodians;
- the importance of responding to the information needs of citizens, particularly conflict-affected persons;
- the current absence of an ARM sector;
- a dearth of trained archivists and records managers.
The AIME programme centres a rights-based, participatory and ethical approach to its work. The programme has the following overarching foci:
- processing collections according international standards and guidance;
- implementing training programmes for both civil society organisations and the public sector;
- conducting research and investigations on archives and records;
- carrying out assessments for civil society organisations and the private sector;
- advocating for good practice in the implementation of ARM-related projects;
- responding to national-level developments concerning archives and records by issuing statements, practice notes, commentaries and other interventionary tools.
